The 2026 Day of Service was July 11th. For this year ServeINC was back at Lafayette Elementary, which our group last painted and landscaped in 2011.
150 Volunteers from 23 churches and organizations came out to help make the day a success.
Board President Rob Nelke thanked the volunteers, “Super grateful for everyone who showed up. We had about 150 volunteers, and I’m really thankful that every one of them showed up. Thankful for John Killinger for leading the work project, and for the help from the school district from Brian, who was willing to provide anything we needed.”
“You know, everybody pitching in together made this this truly work. It exemplifies the statement, we’re better together.“
“It’s not competition. It is working together because we are the church.” said Emily Tedrow of Jesus Pursuit. “I always love being a part of this project because we get to link arms with one another and see what God is doing and hear testimonies of what God’s doing in each other’s churches. We work together in unity, and that’s just powerful.”
Charlotte and her son Sam where there volunteering for the first time. They came out simply because they wanted to help thee community.
Adrian is an accounts manager for Sherwin-Williams. She brought her family out to help because her kiss attend school in the district.
“I think it’s wonderful! I did not expect this many people to show up today. When I got out here yesterday and saw John getting it ready, he said about 100 people would show up. And I thought, really? And then I got out here, and there are so many volunteers. To see this kind of support, it’s amazing!”
As John Killinger gave opening instructions he again pointed to our ServeINC motto. “Your shirt says one of my favorite things, ‘We are better together.’ Yes, better together. There’s so many things that divide us, but the Lord should bring us together, to unite us. And today we can do that.”
One of the purposes of ServeINC is to tell our community that the church of Albany is united as one, not just divided by separate buildings and that the church of Albany loves the community we live in. One way we do that is to show the love of God to the community through quality acts of service, like our annual day of service. We are grateful for the sponsors, partners, churches and volunteers who make this possible.
